You have a question related to GMADA.

Maybe you need to get something done. Maybe you want to check the status of something you have already submitted. Maybe you are looking for a particular service but don’t know what it is called. So you search. And this is where things can become confusing.

You may find several pages, different services and different options. Some sound similar, while others may not seem related to your problem at all.

The real question is not always “Where is the GMADA website?”

Sometimes it is:

“What exactly should I look for?”

That is an important difference.

GMADA provides a range of services and online facilities for citizens and allottees. Its systems have included facilities for checking application status, submitting grievances, checking RTI status, accessing property information and making online payments. So before starting a process, it helps to first understand what kind of help you actually need.

Start With the Problem, Not the Service Name

This is probably the easiest place to begin. Suppose you have already submitted something to GMADA and now want to know what is happening with it. You do not necessarily need to search for every possible GMADA service. What you really need is information about the status of your application or request.

GMADA has a Single Window system through which applicants can check application status using a reference ID or application number. Its published information also describes an online grievance system where people can submit grievances and check their status. The same idea applies to other situations.

If your question is about an RTI request, there is an RTI status facility. If you need to make a payment related to an eligible service or property, GMADA has online payment facilities. In other words, you do not have to know the perfect GMADA terminology before you begin. First understand what you are trying to do. Then look for the service that matches it.

What If You Don’t Know Which Service You Need?

This is where many users can get stuck. A person may know the problem but not the official name of the service. For example, someone may simply think:

“I need a certificate.”

That is not enough information to identify the exact process.

Another person may think:

“I submitted something earlier. I just want to know what happened.”

Again, the important detail is not the word “application.” It is which application or request, and whether there is a reference number or application number to track it. This is why it is useful to collect the basic information you already have before starting a search.

Keep things such as your application number, reference ID, relevant documents or previous communication available when they apply to your situation. That can make it much easier to identify the right route instead of starting from the beginning every time.

There Is Another Thing Worth Checking: Time Limits

Finding the correct service is only one part of the process. You may also want to know how long a service is officially expected to take. GMADA has published information under the Punjab Right to Service framework listing designated officers and time limits for several services.

For example, the published document lists 15 working days for an Occupation/Completion Certificate, 21 working days for certain NOC/duplicate allotment/re-allotment services, 15 working days for a Conveyance Deed and 7 working days for a No Due Certificate.

These time limits are not the same for every service. That matters. If you know the applicable service and its published time limit, you have a much clearer idea of what to expect instead of simply wondering whether your work is taking longer than it should.

The same GMADA document says that where a listed service is not obtained within the prescribed time limit, a citizen may file an appeal with the Additional Chief Administrator, GMADA, S.A.S. Nagar. So if something is taking longer than expected, the useful question is not simply:

“Why is it delayed?”

It is:

“What is the official time limit for this particular service, and what can I do if that limit has passed?”

That gives you something concrete to check.

You Don’t Always Have to Start by Visiting an Office

Another useful point for users is that GMADA has developed online facilities for several types of citizen interaction. Its official material describes online systems for application-status checking, grievances, RTI status, property information and payments. That does not mean every matter can be completed online.

It simply means that checking what can be done online before making a visit can save unnecessary effort.

You may first be able to find out whether your matter has an online status option, whether a reference number can be used to track it, or whether the information you need is already available through a GMADA service. And if your issue still requires direct assistance, you are then approaching the office with a clearer understanding of what you need.

The Simple Way to Approach Any GMADA Problem

There is no need to memorise every GMADA service.

Instead, start with four simple questions:

  • What am I trying to get done?
  • Have I already submitted something?
  • Do I have an application number or reference ID?
  • Is there an official time limit or online facility for this service?

These questions can help turn a vague problem into something much easier to handle. You may begin with, “I need help from GMADA.”

After checking the available information, you may realise that what you actually need is to track an application, check a grievance, check an RTI request, make a payment, find a particular service or understand the time limit for a service. That is a much better starting point.
