Document Overview
The Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority (Building) Rules, 1996 were notified on 27 June 1996 under Section 180 read with Section 48(2) of the 1995 parent Act. These are the building bye-laws — the rules an applicant must follow to get a building plan sanctioned within GMADA's jurisdiction.
Key Provisions & Structure
The rules apply to three categories of land within GMADA's remit:
- Urban estates set up by the Authority under Section 28 of the 1995 Act, or under the earlier Punjab Urban Estates (Development and Regulation) Act, 1964
- Planning areas where the Authority has made a town development scheme, or which it is otherwise developing
- Controlled areas declared under Section 4 of the Punjab Scheduled Roads and Controlled Areas Restriction of Unregulated Development Act
Within these areas, the rules govern building plan submission and sanction — the statutory basis GMADA cites whenever it approves or rejects a construction plan.
