Public notice regarding Land Acquisition of village Niman Establishment of Expocity SAS Nagar.

Overview of the Notice

This public notice relates to the proposed land acquisition for the establishment of Expo City in S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali). The proposed acquisition covers land in the following villages:

• Safipur
• Nadiali
• Rurka
• Dharamgarh

Expert Group Review Under Section 7

A Social Impact Assessment (SIA) was carried out for the land proposed to be acquired for the Expo City project. The SIA report was then examined by an Expert Group constituted by the Punjab Government under Section 7 of the RFCTLARR Act, 2013. After reviewing the assessment, the Expert Group recorded that:

• the proposed land acquisition serves a public purpose;
• the expected benefits of the project are considered greater than the identified social costs and adverse social impacts; and
• the land proposed for acquisition has been limited to the minimum area considered necessary for the project.

After considering the overall matter, the Expert Group has recommended proceeding with the proposed land acquisition for Expo City.

Why Has This Notice Been Issued?

The purpose of this notice is to publicly disclose the recommendations of the Section 7 Expert Group and ensure that affected families and residents of the concerned villages are informed. Copies of the notice have been sent to:

• Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Mohali
• Tehsildar, Mohali
• Sarpanches of Safipur, Nadiali, Rurka and Dharamgarh
• GMADA’s IT Wing
• the concerned Housing and Urban Development Department office

The Sarpanches have been asked to display copies of the notice at prominent locations in the villages, including Gurdwaras, temples, mosques, community facilities and other public notice boards.

What Happens Next?

This notice represents the Section 7 Expert Group recommendation stage of the land-acquisition process. It does not mean that the acquisition is complete or that possession of the land can immediately be taken. The recommendations must be considered by the competent authority under the subsequent provisions of the RFCTLARR Act before the acquisition can move to later statutory stages.
